Q: Can your Roll-Up door be painted?
A: Definitely! Here at Woodfold, we're all about choice, so you can specify that your door be either factory-finished with clear lacquer, custom paint or stain, or unfinished for field application of paint or stain. Should you select an unfinished door, however, extreme care should be taken to ensure that the individual slats are not stuck together with dried paint or stain. This will adversely affect door operation.
A Tip: Woodfold's factory finishing services are generally less expensive than field finishing, and usually offer superior results. Each component is finished prior to assembly, assuring complete coverage, and problems with oils or grease coming in contact with the door during installation are minimized. Also, every finish we use is water-based and 100 percent environmentally safe - a big plus for the planet.
Q: Do you offer custom match finishes?
A: You name it, we'll match it. Simply send a sample of the desired paint or stain finish to Woodfold prior to production, and we'll prepare and return a match sample for your approval. Once samples and shop drawings are approved, we'll get to work crafting your door.

Q: How do I measure the opening?
A: Dimensions for fabrication of a Woodfold Roll-Up Door are based on four different mounting styles. Click on the style below that reflects your installation criteria. (Note: Acrobat Reader is required to view these PDF documents.)

The initial dimensions will be used for quotation purposes, and a follow-up formalized shop drawing will verify the exact final dimensions of your door and its components.
Q: What wood species can I choose from?
A: Woodfold Roll-Up Doors are offered standard in Maple, Birch, Cherry, Mahogany and Oak. We also offer other hardwood species on special request, though due to quality standards, we don't offer softwood species.
Q: What sizes are available in your Roll-Up Door line?
A: Woodfold Roll-Up Doors are available in maximum widths to 12' and clear opening heights up to 8'. In certain cases however, availability of hardwood supplies and operation issues impacted by the overall door size may result in width and height restrictions.
A: Hood sizes range from 11" to 14" in height and depth, and the width is dependent upon the size of your opening.
A: No, although we recommend that the coil be enclosed in the field by a contractor if you don't use a hood.

Q: Are your Roll-Up Doors as easy to operate as they look?
A: Absolutely. Our unique torsion spring system allows for smooth, effortless operation, although for doors installed on openings in excess of 60 square feet, we recommend use of a motor or hand crank.
Q: What happens if I have a problem with a Roll-Up Door?
A: Since every Woodfold Roll-Up Door is engineered and crafted for lasting, problem-free performance, we're confident such a scenario will never arise. But if it does, the dealer or distributor from whom you purchased the door will assist with service issues and any questions.
Q: Are your Roll-Up Doors guaranteed?
A: Of course. Woodfold Roll-Up Doors are guaranteed against problems resulting from defective materials or faulty manufacturing workmanship. Problems created by field finishing however, cannot be covered by this guarantee.
Q: What types of latches can I choose from?
A: Woodfold Roll-Up Doors are available with slide bolts, thumb turns or key lock style deadbolts. We don't offer motorized doors with lock or latching systems in order to sidestep problems which would likely occur if someone operated the motor when a lock was engaged.
Q: Where can I purchase a Woodfold door?
A: Woodfold doors are available through a network of building material and specialty distributors/dealers. Upon your request we'd be happy to direct you to an outlet in your immediate area.
Q: How are thumb turns and key locks mounted? What about slide bolts?
A: Both thumb turns and key locks are surface-mounted, with the dead bolt portion mounted internally in the bottom bar. Slide bolts are surface-mounted.
A: Although you can relocate a latch or lock, we don't recommend doing so, since unsightly machining marks and holes will remain on the bottom bar. Woodfold's precision shop drawing process eliminates the problem altogether by assuring the latch/lock mechanism is properly positioned.
Q: How quickly can I get a Woodfold Roll-Up Door?
A: Our standard production lead-time is two to three weeks after receipt of final shop drawing forms and approval of color match, if required. Additional time should be allowed for shipping.
Q: Are your Roll-Up Doors available with fire rating?
A: No, Woodfold doors are not available with a fire rating, nor are they constructed of fire retardant materials. Here’s why: typically, roll-up doors don’t serve as an egress, and oftentimes, areas on both sides of the door are protected by sprinkler systems. While these factors may eliminate the requirement for fire rated material in your project, we suggest consulting with your local code officials.
Q: Are Woodfold Roll-Up Doors available with sound rating?
A: To date, STC and FSTC tests for sound control have not been performed on our Roll-Up Doors.
Q: Can I remove slats once a door arrives on site?
A: Since Woodfold Roll-Up Doors are precision-crafted to your initial specifications, we don’t recommend adding or removing slats in the field.
Q: What type of support is required in a door opening?
A: Our Roll-Up Doors are attached to the wood guide rails which are part of the door package, and require support of vertical walls.
Q: Can I order metal guide rails?
A: For aesthetics sake, all Woodfold guide rails are crafted of the same hardwood material as the roll-up curtain, and exceed all minimum strength requirements for this application.
Q: How can a Woodfold motorized Roll-Up Door be operated in case of a power failure?
A: No worries. Our motor-operated doors include an emergency hand crank in case a power outage occurs.
Q: What requirements should I know about if I purchase a motorized door?
A: Our motor-operated Roll-Up Doors draw 1.8 amps, require a standard 120-volt power source, and include a standard single-pole double-throw paddle switch.
Q: What's the difference between roll-up doors, rolling shutters, coiling grills and tambour doors?
A: Roll-up doors, rolling shutters and coiling grills are common terms used when describing an overhead coiling door used for counter or full-height dividers. Tambour doors are typically lighter weight and used as a component in kitchen cabinetry, roll-top desks, appliance garages and entertainment centers.
A: On inside and between-wall mounts in motor or crank applications, a space must be created to house the gearbox between the end plate and the mounting jamb or wall. This space is called a Pack Out. Click on the appropriate mounting option below to get a better look. (Acrobat Reader is required.)

A: On Inside Mounts and Between Wall Mounts without Lintel, the opposite coil side is exposed and should be covered by a fascia. On an Outside Mount, the opposite coil side is covered by the wall.
